CPC calculator: work out cost per click, budget or clicks
To calculate CPC, divide ad spend by clicks: 600 spent for 300 clicks is a CPC of 2.00. The calculator also works backwards. Enter a CPC and a click target to get the budget you need, or a budget and a CPC to estimate how many clicks it buys. Use one currency and one click definition, and remember a cheap click is not automatically a useful visit.

CPC formula
CPC = spend ÷ clicksBudget = CPC × clicksClicks = budget ÷ CPCCPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000)How to use the CPC calculator
- Choose what to solve for: CPC, budget or clicks.
- Enter the other two numbers from the same report scope: one account currency, one complete period, the same campaign and the same click type (link clicks or all clicks). Convert Google Ads API values in micros (divide by 1,000,000) first.
- Press Calculate. The working is shown under the result. Treat budget and click estimates as planning figures: the CPC you pay moves with the auction, audience and ad quality.
Average cost per click: a worked example
Illustrative example: a campaign spends 600 and records 300 clicks. 600 ÷ 300 = a CPC of 2.00 in the account currency. At that CPC, 1,000 clicks would need a budget of about 2,000, and a 450 budget would buy about 225 clicks.
CPC examples for each calculation
The same formula answers three planning questions. All numbers are illustrative, not benchmarks.
| Question | You know | Working | Answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| What is my CPC? | Spend 600, clicks 300 | 600 ÷ 300 | CPC 2.00 |
| What budget do I need for 1,000 clicks? | CPC 2, clicks 1,000 | 2 × 1,000 | Budget 2,000 |
| How many clicks will my budget buy? | Budget 450, CPC 2 | 450 ÷ 2 | About 225 clicks |
| What is my CPC with no clicks? | Spend 40, clicks 0 | Division by zero | Unavailable |
Where to find spend, clicks and CPC in Google Ads and Meta
Google Ads: in the campaigns table, add Cost, Clicks and Avg. CPC from Columns. Avg. CPC is what you actually paid on average, not your maximum bid. In the Google Ads API, metrics.average_cpc and metrics.cost_micros are in micros.
Meta Ads Manager: CPC (cost per link click) divides amount spent by link clicks; CPC (all) divides by every click, including likes and profile taps, so it is always lower. Pick one and keep it for comparisons.
When the CPC ratio is undefined
Zero clicks makes this ratio undefined, even if spend is also zero, and a CPC of zero cannot estimate clicks from a budget. The tool reports an input issue rather than inventing a free-click result.

Questions, answered
How do you calculate CPC?
Divide ad spend by the number of clicks for the same period and scope. 600 spent for 300 clicks is a CPC of 2.00.
What is the CPC formula?
CPC = spend ÷ clicks. It is also CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000) when CTR is a fraction.
How do I calculate the budget for a number of clicks?
Multiply the expected CPC by the clicks you want. 1,000 clicks at a CPC of 2 need a budget of about 2,000.
How many clicks will my budget get?
Divide the budget by the expected CPC. A 450 budget at a CPC of 2 buys about 225 clicks. It is an estimate: actual CPC changes with the auction.
Is average CPC the same as my max CPC bid?
No. Max CPC is the most you allow per click; average CPC is what you actually paid, which is usually lower.
Why is my CPC unavailable?
With zero clicks the ratio is undefined. A zero would wrongly suggest free clicks when money was spent and nothing was clicked.
