Google Ads campaign zero conversions: what to check first
Zero reported conversions is a result to investigate, not a diagnosis. It can reflect too little activity, outcomes that have not arrived yet, an offer that does not fit the query, or an event that no longer fires. Start with the configured outcome and the customer journey before making a broad claim about the campaign.

Four reasons a Google Ads campaign shows zero conversions
The same empty column can come from very different causes, and each calls for a different first action. Use the table to decide which investigation to run before the budget conversation starts.
| Possible cause | Evidence that supports it | Evidence against it | First action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broken or missing event | Other campaigns also dropped; a site release coincides | Other campaigns convert normally | Test the journey with tag tools |
| Too little traffic | Few clicks compared with what a conversion usually needs here | Thousands of clicks over several weeks | Keep observing with the same definitions |
| Outcomes still immature | Campaign is days old; the offer has a long decision cycle | Period is complete and past the usual lag | Mark provisional and set a review date |
| Query or offer mismatch | Search terms unrelated to the page | Terms are relevant and the page converts elsewhere | Review search terms and the ad promise |
Confirm the conversion action can fire on a test journey
Open the conversion action settings and confirm that the action you expect is active, counted as a primary action, and included in the Conversions column the report uses. An action set to secondary, or one created recently, may be recorded elsewhere and never reach the column you are reading.
Then complete the journey yourself from an ad click where possible and watch the event fire with the tag or browser tools. A form that now confirms inline instead of loading a thank-you page, a consent banner that blocks the tag, or a site release that renamed a button can stop the event without any visible change to the page.
Measure how much relevant traffic arrived, and when
Zero outcomes from forty clicks and zero from four thousand are different findings. Compare the campaign’s clicks with the number of clicks other campaigns in this account typically need per conversion. If the campaign has not yet received that many relevant clicks, the result is low-volume uncertainty rather than a sustained pattern.
Recency matters as much as volume. Google reports conversions against the date of the click, so a campaign launched last week has had little time to mature. Check that the period under review is complete and older than the usual gap between click and outcome before reading an empty column as failure.
Illustrative example: the form that stopped reporting success
Illustrative example: a campaign for a bookkeeping service spends an invented 1,500 over three complete weeks and reports zero enquiries. The team is about to pause it. The search terms are relevant, and the page received 600 clicks, roughly the number that other campaigns in the account need for four or five enquiries.
The office inbox holds seven enquiries from the period, all from the campaign’s landing page. A website release had changed the form to confirm inline instead of loading the thank-you page the event depended on. The business outcome was fine; the measurement was broken. Pausing the campaign would have fixed nothing and lost the enquiries.
Cost per conversion is undefined, not zero
When conversions are zero the ratio has no value. A dashboard that prints 0.00 implies perfect efficiency; one that prints the spend as the cost per conversion implies that one conversion happened. Display the ratio as unavailable, and show the underlying spend and the zero count beside it so the reader sees what is actually known.
Attributed conversions, once they appear, are still only the platform’s credited outcomes. They are not incremental sales and they are not a promise that the next period will repeat them. Keep the report date and conversion definition alongside every count.
Investigate zero conversions in Adlane
Connect the Google Ads account and ask a bounded question that names the outcome and the period, for example: “The Bookkeeping Search campaign shows no conversions for the last three complete weeks. Show spend, clicks, the search terms and the conversion actions counted, and compare its click volume with the other campaigns.” Review the evidence before accepting any explanation.
Resolve a confirmed measurement or journey fault first, then review a suitable complete window. If relevance still looks weak, Adlane can prepare a specific targeting or offer proposal that shows the current setting and the proposed change for your approval; nothing is applied by the conversation, and new campaigns start paused.
